Description: This feature class contains the polygons representing the watershed boundaries from the Countywide Master Plan Update Models for all watersheds in unincorporated Hillsborough County. A watershed is an area of land that drains all the streams and rainfall to a common outlet such as the outflow of a reservoir, mouth of a bay, or any point along a stream channel. The subbasin delineation dataset for each watershed was downloaded from the Countywide Master Plan Update dataset and reprojected them into the NAD 1983 HARN Florida State Plane coordinate system to match the spatial coordinates with Southwest Florida Water Management District (SWFWMD) datasets. They were combined to a single basin delineation feature class for Hillsborough County Watersheds. The features were checked for topology error and fixed to include gaps and to remove the overlaps between subbasins and watersheds. Then, they were dissolved in ArcGIS by watershed to get the watershed boundary. The goal of the Watershed Management Plan (WMP) update was to upgrade the Hillsborough County Stormwater Management Model (HCSWMM) and floodplain mapping for the watersheds throughout the County. The update of the WMP was necessary due to the tremendous amount of development that has occurred throughout the county. The watershed model updates were based on digital topographic data, land use, aerial photography and recent development within each watershed. To find out more how these subbasins were delineated, please contact Hillsborough County Public Works Department, Technical Services Division, Stormwater Services Section, 22th Floor, County Center, 601 E. Kennedy Blvd., Tampa, FL 33602.

Description: This feature class contains the polygons representing the subbasin boundaries from the Countywide Master Plan Update Models for all watersheds within unincorporated Hillsborough County. These polygons of subbasins represent the hydrological units of land whose topography and drainage system elements direct surface runoff to a single point. Discharge outlet points can be either junctions of the drainage system or other subbasins. Each subbasin is numbered with the junction number to which the subbasin drains. A subbasin is not always delineated for every junction. The subbasin delineation of individual watershed was downloaded from the Countywide Master Plan Update studies and was reprojected into the NAD 1983 HARN Florida State Plane coordinate system to match the spatial coordinates with Southwest Florida Water Management District (SWFWMD) datasets.
