MSWLFs can attract large numbers of birds and other wildlife, which pose a significant hazard to aircraft during takeoff and landing. The FAA provides guidance for persons considering the construction or establishment of a new MSWLF near a public airport to comply with MSWLF site limitations. </SPAN></P><P><SPAN>The FAA, through the Wendell H. Ford Aviation Investment and Reform Act for the 21st Century, has site limitations for MSWLFs near public airports. </SPAN></P><P><SPAN>1. The restricted area typically excludes the airspace 1,500 feet AGL (above ground level) and below within a 3 NM (nautical miles) radius of airports available for public use. </SPAN></P><P><SPAN>2. This exclusion may be increased if necessary based on unique circumstances. </SPAN></P><P><SPAN>3.
